After weeks of speculation, it has been revealed that Troy Ave will not be charged with murder in the deadly shooting at Irving Plaza that injured three victims and claimed the life of his bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McPhatter. However, a grand jury has indicted the Brooklyn rapper on five felonies – one count of attempted second degree murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Only days after the shooting took place, police released an 11 second clip of the “Doo Doo” rapper shooting inside of a VIP green room at the venue. According to Troy’s defense team, Troy was actually the victim who was simply trying to protect himself. Troy sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, and was taken to the hospital where police arrested him.

Yesterday, Troy’s lawyer, Scott Leemon, released the following statement, “Nothing in this indictment is a surprise or new. It’s the same wrong story that NYPD has been trying to portray. The video does not show everything nor explain what happened in the VIP room before Troy came running out, as a victim, after he was shot.”

Leemon will reportedly push to have Troy released on bail at a court hearing later this week.
