Jerry Heller dies, Straight Outta Compton may be the reason for his death.
Only one year after “Straight Outta Compton” hit theaters, N.W.A.’s original manager, Jerry Heller, passed away at 75. Heller’s cousin, Gary Ballen, has confirmed that he suffered a heart attack while driving, which caused him to crash. He was rushed to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, California, where he was pronounced dead. The other driver in the collision suffered minor injuries.
Back in October, Heller filed a $110 million defamation lawsuit against Straight Outta Compton’s filmmakers – claiming the movie hindered his reputation and was made without his consent. Heller’s lawyer, Mickey Shapiro, says that Heller would be still be alive if the biopic had not portrayed him as a crook.
Shapiro told TMZ, “Jerry Heller would be alive today if not for that movie. I’ve known Jerry since 1983 when I was an attorney on a case against him. I’ve always respected him even though he was on the other side of me on a case and I always found his behavior to be ethical, moral, and demonstrated a higher degree of integrity and honesty.”
