The Weeknd recently donated to $250,000 to Black Lives Matter.

The Weeknd has been feeling quite generous lately. Less than a week ago, the “Wicked Games” singer donated $50,000 to the University of Toronto to fund a new Ethiopic Studies program. (Weeknd’s parents are from Ethiopia, but raised him in Canada). Now, Weeknd has made headlines once again – this time for donating $250,000 to The Black Lives Matter Network.

The Black Lives Matter Network advocates for justice and freedom for African-Americans, and was founded in 2013 by Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi. It has a branch located in Weeknd’s hometown of Toronto. After Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were killed, Weeknd tweeted, “Enough is enough. it’s time to stand up for this. we can either sit and watch, or do something about it. the time is now. #blacklivesmatter.” and “#BLUELIVESMURDER.”

Kudos to The Weeknd!
