Ohio rapper Slim Jesus is making it quite clear that he would rather be an independent artist instead of settling for less with a record label. This week the 18 year old rapper posted a video on his Instagram of him burning a record contract all while saying, “A little fun fact a lot of y’all don’t know. I been had offers from the same bullshit ass labels signing your favorite rappers. And you know how I feel about ‘em? Fuck a label. We getting independent money, bitch.” The caption of the photo read, “Fuck a label #IndependentMoney”. Do you think Slim is getting ahead of himself by turning down the labels?
Slim Jesus gained his popularity upon the release of his “Drill Time” music video which went viral and raked in more than 16 million views on Youtube. However, Slim has received mixed reviews from the Hip Hop community. On one hand, many were accepting of Slim and what he had to offer. On the other hand, a lot of artists criticized him for releasing a drill song, because the majority of drill songs are made by African American artists.
Consequently, no one believes his gangsta demeanor, nor that he shoots guns in the hood. Lil Bibby recently came to his defense after rapper Lil Mouse released a diss track aimed at Slim. Only time will tell if Slim will make it in the rap game.
