R. Kelly Requests Release From Jail Due To Coronavirus Concerns

by Yellah Bone

R. Kelly is requesting an early release.

R. Kelly is asking a judge to release him from custody at Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center – but for good reasoning. Apparently, the 53 year old “Trapped In The Closet” singer is concerned about his health amid Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns worldwide.

Kelly’s lawyer, Steven Greenberg, filed the following motion, “The health risk to Mr. Kelly, because of his age and existing health issues, especially considering the conditions at the MCC, necessitates his release on bail. The courts have long recognized that there is no greater necessity than keeping a defendant alive, no matter the charge.”

“No matter what steps they take the sanitation will be substandard, the risk of an internal pandemic at the MCC is great, and if one does get sick jail healthcare is notoriously substandard.”

R. Kelly’s lawyer claims that the jail only has one bottle of hand sanitizer, is limited to “STAFF ONLY.” In addition, prisoners only have access to soap if they can afford it.

Steven says it is impossible for Kelly to remain at MCC especially because he is “within the group of people the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has categorized as most-at-risk for contracting COVID-19.”

Kelly is currently awaiting trial on sexual abuse and racketeering charges.

If released, Kelly will live with one of his girlfriends, Joycelyn Savage, at the Roosevelt Collection Lofts apartment complex in Chicago.
