Nicki Minaj is in hot water after allegedly poking fun at a mentally ill woman.
Nicki Minaj is facing backlash from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for allegedly mocking a mentally ill woman in South Beach, Florida. On Sunday, the 33 year old “Black Barbies” rapstress posted an Instagram video of an angry and disheveled woman shouting at her from a sidewalk. It’s obvious that the woman suffers from some type of mental illness, but that doesn’t stop Minaj from giggling and egging the woman on.
The video shows Minaj filming the distressed woman who shouts, “Go away! I don’t need your help!” Minaj laughs then asks the woman, “What did I do? Miss! You look nice, can we talk?” Despite giving her a compliment, the woman refuses to chat with Minaj and walks away.
Upon seeing the video, a countless amount of Minaj’s Instagram followers began to attack her in the comments, writing, “Ok this is really fucked up. I like Nicki and all, but come on 🙄”, “You’re completely stupid, rude, and uneducated for shaming this woman @nickiminaj and now that you know this woman is ill, you should take it down. Period. Use your fame for something positive and inspiring instead of bringing others down. #noclass” and “Nicki I love u but take this shit down boo.”
In response, a representative for NAMI has also slammed Minaj for her insensitivity towards the woman, stating, “Nobody would make fun of a cancer patient, and mental illness is an illness like any other.”
Minaj has yet to respond. The video has since raked in 1.9 million views and 258,000 likes.
