The state of California is suffering from one of its biggest droughts in history, but the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District’s efforts to have residents cut down on water usage is failing tremendously. Kylie Jenner and her boyfriend Tyga are amongst the lawbreakers being penalized. Kylie recently moved into her own $2.7 million, 4,900-sq.-ft. mansion in Calabasas, and has already been cited twice.
First time offenders are fined $100, which increases to $500 after the fourth offense. After the fifth offense, the city has the option to cut the resident’s water off altogether. Residents are allowed only 15-minute outdoor water use two days a week. This can be challenging for many residents like Kylie, who lives in a lavish home pinned with huge green lawns and gardens. Other offenders include David Hasselhoff, Dr. Dre, and Denise Richards.
Dave Pedersen, general manager of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District spoke with NBC stating, “We have actually reached out to celebrities in our district. I have personally written letters to them asking them to take a stand on conservation.”
