Kanye West is reportedly being sued over a sample that he used in his 2013 track “New Slaves”. Hungarian composer Gabor Presser has filed a suit against the 38 year old Chicago rapper claiming that he used one of his songs on New Slaves without properly securing a deal first.
Presser admits that West did reach out to him for permission to use his song “Gyöngyhajú lány”. However, he says he was under the impression that a formal deal would be presented to him. Presser claims all he received from West was a $10,000 check that he never cashed. Presser also claims the check was just an advance to get the process rolling quicker since the album was already being promoted.
Now, Presser is suing West for $2.5 million and says Ye “knowingly and intentionally misappropriated one of Pressor’s songs for New Slaves without a signed licensed agreement”.
