Troy Ave has been the topic of conversation every since he released his diss track “Bad A**” aimed at Pro Era lyricist Joey Bada$$. The two New York rappers have never been the best of friends, but the feud between the two of them was reignited when Joey released his track “Ready”, and called out Troy Ave over his failed album sales. As to be expected, Troy Ave shot back at Joey, but his distasteful lyrics have called quite a bit of controversy in the Hip Hop community.

On “Bad A**”, Troy raps, “You’s a filthy backpack rapper out a thrift shop / Drug addict face, what’s on your junky head…I know real n*ggas and none of them bump you / I know plenty bad b*tches and none of them f*cked you.” While most of the jabs in the song were aimed at Joey, Troy Ave took an uneccesary dig at Joey’s friend and former Pro Era member Capital Steez, who tragically committed suicide back in 2012 rapping, “Don’t be suicidal like ya friend / It’s a casket / Steez burning in hell, my burners on my belt.”

Joey immediately followed up on the comments via Twitter tweeting, “This brotha been buggin… Get him TF outta here… No mercy for this man”, along with a screenshot of a series of old tweets of Troy dissing Nas for no apparent reason.

While speaking to Sway on phone, Troy continued to bash the late rapper stating, “He didn’t pass away. He killed himself. There’s a difference. God gave you life, it ain’t your right to take that. That’s a fact. I got niggas in jail who got life sentences, they might as well be dead. They could’ve traded their life for his…your friends speak to your character. I got friends that’s killing shit, his friends are killing themselves. We not on the same level. Don’t play with me.”

Troy Ave later apologized for the insensitive comments after Styles P called him out and told him that he was offended by his comments, and that it was a touchy subject for him (Styles P lost his daughter to suicide last year).
