DJ White Owl, a popular mixtape DJ, known for his tagline “DJ White Owl, drop that!”, has passed away.
The shocking news was confirmed by his artist and close friend, Pokerface. Via Instagram, Pokerface wrote, “Rest in Peace Rob. I’ll see you on the other side. Just gotta be strong and tell you thank you. See you in heaven my brother.. 😢🌊#TheRealPokerface #SamRothstein #DJWhiteOwl #RipDJWhiteOwl #PokerfaceAndDJWhiteOwl.” His cause of death hasn’t been revealed at this time, but reports are claiming that the DJ was suffering from “an undisclosed long-term illness”. Pokerface has suggested that White Owl was dealing with an illness similar to leukemia.
White Owl played a major role in the mixtape scene for nearly a decade. His “Drop That” mixtape series premiered a number of tracks for Lil Wayne during the rapper’s “mixtape Weezy” era. DJ White Owl also premiered exclusive tracks from Dipset, D Block, Nipsey Hussle, and a slew of others. Throughout his career, White Owl released over a hundred volumes of his Drop That series.
White Owl’s cousin revealed on Instagram that the DJ’s wake and funeral will be held Sunday and Monday in Chester, New York.
