Childish Gambino, whose real name is Donald Glover, revealed to a crowd that his father, Donald Glover Sr. has sadly passed away.
“I lost my father a couple weeks ago,” Glover said. “And I wanted to play him some of the new songs. But he didn’t want to hear them because he was like, ‘I know they’ll be great.’ “I’m not saying that to talk about music,” he said. “I say that to talk about trust.”
Before starting his song Gambino (Glover) added:
“That’s what love is,” Glover continued. “I hope you guys get to feel that kind of love and trust in your life. There’s nothing like it. So, this song is for you, and this song is for him.” Glover then performed “Riot.”
The heartbreaking announcement of his father’s death has definitely been a surprise to fans. Yet, the Grammy winner definitely had not made any slight mention of his dad’s illness.
In his life, Donald Glover Sr. was known to be highly supportive of his son. He often posted praise after praise about his son on his twitter account, @DonaldsDad. Many of his fans have been sending sweet messages to Gambino all day.
One of his fans wrote:
“Donald Glover broke his foot and had to reschedule his tour and then finished the rescheduled dates after the passing of his father. He’s been doing so much for us and went through a lot. Prayers up to Donald.” Another wrote, “You’re in my prayers on the loss of your father Donald Glover Sr. Stay strong, pray and God will strengthen you in time of need.”
