As we’re experiencing a new evolution of Hip hop, many artist are working hard to make a name for
themselves. Coming from Cambridge, MA, new emerging rapper Jay Trap Dolla$ happens to be a stand out spitter from his city and state. Jay always had love for the music industry, but did’t start taking things serious until around 2012. In 2013, Jay offered his debut mixtape “Aint Shit But A Trap Thang”, and has continued to drop singles and represent for his Triple Black Entertainment (TBE) camp.

After years of consistent work patterns, Jay Trap Dolla decided he would drop off a new mixtape entitled YWR (Young Wild & Reckless). When we caught wind of the new project, we thought to ourselves, we really haven’t heard much talent come from Massachusetts. But it doesn’t matter where your from, it’s how you do things. From the intro track “Go Again”, you can tell that this would be a solid project once we heard Jay’s gritty style.

With production from FreshfromDE on the intro, Jay tells his story of hustling and coming from nothing, to now being on top. Moving along to the next track “YWR”, we get a bass knocking anthem produced by StudBeats. On this one, you actually get to see why Jay’s so young wild & reckless with the way he manages to deliver his story through raw wordplay.

At this point, the team at Inyaearhiphop was sold and couldn’t wait to move onto the next track. When hearing “To The Sky”, we totally fell in love with the energy Jay brings over the Nard & B produced thumper. Motivated with money getting lyrics, we had to run this one back, and even thought about throwing some bills to the sky. Very catchy song, and honestly we played it about 3 to 4 times.

When entering track 4 “Dirty Bands”, we noticed another catchy number with StudBeats on the boards once again. Jay Trap finds himself having fun on this one, and breaks down how he spends his bands. One thing we can say about the Cambridge upcomer is he definitely knows how to hustle on the mic, and will do just about anything to make his presence felt in the game.

Pretty much every song on the 10 tracked effort instantly grabs you, and it’s safe to say Jay did his job with YWR. From top to bottom, every song stands out on the project, letting you know that Jay Trap is going to be around for awhile. We don’t like spoiling it for the listeners, so we give you a review of a portion of the project, and let you guys hear the raw material yourself.

We the team at Inyaearhiphop gives Jay Trap Dolla$ a 4 out of 5 mics on the new mixtape. We felt the project was a very solid one, but we did feel Jay should have picked other topics to make songs about other than the money. You have to stand out in this very much saturated game of Hip hop and try to be different. Other than making a lot of the material about money, Jay’s bars were on point and his gritty style is something this new age of Hip hop needs.

Here is the entire project below. Listen to YWR (Young Wild & Reckless) and let us know any thoughts if you would.
