Akon owes $164,000 in back rent.

According to TMZ, Akon has been ordered to pay $164,786.99 to GTFM, a company who leased him space for his fashion line, Aliaune Milano, on the 66th floor of the Empire State Building. According to GTFM, Akon owes almost seven months worth of back rent.

The “Locked Up” singer rented the space for $25,000 a month, and reportedly kept up with his payments from July of 2012 to July of 2015. In January 2016, Akon’s company vacated the premises, but without paying the remaining balance first.

After GTFM sued Akon, he never responded to the suit. Therefore, a judge has issued a default judgement.

In other news, Akon recently told TMZ that his Akon Lighting Africa program offered to restore power in Puerto Rico, but the United State government rejected his offer.

“We actually presented a program for Puerto Rico and we got rejected. We have the solution for Puerto Rico, clearly. We would’ve had power up in less than 30 days and they rejected us. They don’t care about the people. If that were the case, then they would have allowed us to go in and provide the solution.”
