The internet was taken by storm once Dreamville artists and top executives changed their social media avatars to a uniform yellow brick wall.
There has been much speculation behind the highly anticipated Dreamville compilation project – Revenge of The Dreamers III – with regard to when it would release.
As of Wednesday, June 12 at approximately 9PM EST the widespread fan-base of dreamers wishes have finally been fulfilled, to an extent, with Dreamville unveiling two singles – “Down Bad” and “Got Me“.
“Down Bad” encompasses pure-unadulterated lyricism from the likes of J.I.D, Bas, J. Cole and Olu from EARTHGANG, in conjunction with a guest feature from the big bad slimeball known as Young Nudy.
As referenced in the chorus, “I was just fucked up/I was just down, down bad/I had to tighten the fuck up, but I’m here for the crown” there’s a conscious effort to utilize hindsight as a means of storytelling to emphasize the transition from what it was to what it is. In fact, what is has become is an onslaught accompaniment of brazen bars best served cole.
“Got Me” features Dreamville’s R&B princess Ari Lennox joined by Omen, Ty Dolla $ign and Dreezy.
“I got you long as you got me” is the soulful dialogue exchange between Ari Lennox and Ty Dolla $ign, which also serves as the chorus on this passionate arrangement of heartfelt desires in the form of a song.
Revenge of The Dreamers III studio sessions birthed a body of music that transcends what happened at Tree Sound studios — where some of music’s brightest stars came together to create.
Hopefully Dreamville won’t keep us waiting much longer, but I must say the wait was definitely worth it.
