Bobby Shmurda’s prison sentence may be reduced.

Bobby Shmurda’s attorney, Alex Spiro, has pulled a few strings that may ultimately reduce his time behind bars. On Tuesday, Shmurda appeared in court with Spiro for allegedly attempting to sneak a shank into Rikers Island. Last June, Shmurda’s girlfriend, Kimberly Rosseau, 18, went to visit him and tried to slip him an homemade blade that she was hiding in her bra.

Now, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office is offering Shmurda a plea deal that could lessen his sentence. Spiro is encouraging Shmurda to plead guilty to a reduced charge of “attempted promoting prison contraband.” If he does, he could get 1 to 4 years.

Shmurda is currently serving 7 years in prison for murder conspiracy, but if he accepts the deal, the sentence will run concurrently. A close source has revealed that Shmurda’s family and friends have been supporting him and are hoping that he takes the deal.

Shmurda admitted that he originally accepted his seven year sentence to help out his longtime friend, Rowdy Rebel. Shmurda told Complex, “I did it for Rowdy. They offered me five and offered Rowdy 12. They said the only way they’ll give him seven is if I took seven too. So, you know, I had to take one for the dawgs.”

Shmurda will have to make a decision before his next hearing, which takes place on January 7.
