Well, this is rather disturbing…

The 2016 Rio Olympics will kick off in Brazil in a little over a month, and the city continues to hit a number of bumps in the road. Wednesday morning, a beach goer discovered human body parts washed ashore the Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, the same beach where Olympic athletes will compete.

The mutilated parts found on the beach included a foot and other limbs. Officials are unclear how they ended up on the sand, however, investigators are saying that they simply washed up from the sea. At this time, the body parts are still unidentified, but police believe the victim was a woman or a young adult. Police have roped off some sections of the beach to investigate the gruesome discovery.

The violence in Brazil is currently at an all time high, but isn’t the only thing prompting athletes to skip the 2016 games. U.S. health officials have concluded that infections in pregnant women can cause microcephaly, a birth defect marked by unusually small head size and potentially severe developmental problems.
