Remembering Lil Snupe

Today will make it exactly three years since Lil Snupe, born Addarren Ross, was shot and killed. The up and coming Louisiana rapper was only 17 when Meek Mill signed him to his Dream Chasers label in April of 2013 after listening to just one demo from him. Snupe’s career was short-lived, but that didn’t stop him from dropping his R.N.I.C (Real N*gga In Charge) mixtape and working with Boosie Badazz, DJ Mustard and Meek Mill.

On June 20, 2013, Lil Snupe was playing video games at the Maplewood Apartment Complex in Louisiana when he got into an argument with another player and was shot to death. Snupe died instantly after sustaining two fatal gunshot wounds to the chest. Days after the murder, the police recovered evidence and arrested the two suspects that were present when Snupe was killed. However, ballistics evidence did not match the suspects guns. Sadly, Snupe’s murder is still unsolved.

A few months back, Snupe’s mother, Denesha Chester, spoke with XXL about the documentary she plans to release to honor Snupe’s life and what she thinks about the police handling her son’s case. Chester stated, “I just think they’re lazy, it’s a prejudice issue. We’re a small town and it’s just another African-American dead. It was told to me that the chief of police was helping Tony [Holden] the best he could because that’s who they were making it seem like killed Snupe.”

“A lot of evidence was messed up. They actually robbed the apartment where Snupe was killed around 2 p.m. Snupe was pronounced dead around 4:08 a.m., so later that day they let people go in there and rob it. Nothing was ever done about that, so they could have tampered with evidence. They didn’t protect the scene and they just didn’t put forth effort to find out what happened to my son.”
