Prince’s passing has left the music industry completely stunned and devastated. While family, friends, and fans around the world are patiently waiting for Prince’s autopsy results to be released, new details have emerged surrounding his death. Allegedly, the music pioneer was treated for a drug overdose six days prior to his death.

Last Friday, Prince’s private jet had to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois after he began feeling ill. The “When Doves Cry” singer was only 48 minutes away from his home in Minnesota. Originally, Prince’s reps said that the star was rushed to the hospital and treated for the flu, which he had been battling for a few weeks. Now, unnamed sources have come forward and revealed that during Prince’s 3 hour hospital stay, doctors gave him a “save shot”, which is typically administered to counteract the effects of opiates.

Reportedly, the musical icon had taken Percocet after his Atlanta concert due to hip pain. In 2010, Prince had corrective hip surgery to relieve pain that he had been experiencing after years of performing and dancing in high heels. In 2009, Prince, who is a Jehovah’s witness, refused to have a double hip replacement because the religion opposes blood transfusions. Therefore, he couldn’t receive the complex surgery that he really needed.

Today, the Anoka County Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey, Minnesota conducted an extensive autopsy on Prince. The office released the following statement, “As part of a complete exam, relevant information regarding Mr. Nelson’s medical and social history will be gathered. Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration.”
