It’s no secret that DMX has struggled with drug addiction over the years, but recently the rapper has proven to be on the right track and focused on jump-starting his career again. The past couple of months he’s been keeping busy performing and hosting events, but it’s looking like he may have fallen off of the wagon again.
Monday evening, X, born Earl Simmons, 45, was rushed to the hospital after complaining of shortness of breathe and chest pains outside of the Ramada Inn in his hometown of Yonkers, New York. Members of his entourage tried to find his inhaler, but the rapper had already collapsed. When news first broke, it was reported that X had suffered an asthma attack (he has a history of asthma related incidents), but now sources are suggesting that X suffered a drug overdose.
When authorities arrived to the scene, DMX wasn’t breathing, nor did he have a pulse. They immediately performed CPR and administered Narcan, an antidote for opioid overdoses. Thankfully, X was resuscitated, then rushed to a nearby New York hospital. A witness told the police that X had “ingested some sort of powder” before falling unconscious.
According to TMZ, DMX denies taking any drugs and says all he remembers is having shortness of breath after suffering from bronchitis for a couple of days.
He is currently listed in stable condition.
