Uncle Sam is doing his best to ruin MC Hammer’s holiday spirit. According to court documents, MC Hammer, born Stanley Kirk Burrell, 53, and his wife Stephanie owe the IRS approximately $798,033.48 for failing to pay back income taxes for the years 1996 and 1997. Unfortunately, the government has already began to garnish Hammer’s wages to pay off the debt. This isn’t Hammer’s first encounter with financial woes, he publicly filed for bankruptcy in 1996 after accumulating $13 million in debt.
MC Hammer reached the peak of his career from the late 1980s until the late 1990s. He rose to fame with his hit records “U Can’t Touch This” and “2 Legit 2 Quit”, and is known for his flashy dance moves, choreography, and epic Hammer pants. One of his greatest accomplishments of all was becoming a household name that has sold more than 50 million records worldwide.
