Last night, things took a turn for the worse at Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. New Jersey state police clashed with attendees when they forcefully tried to break past security and enter the concert. This forced police to step into riot mode, and ultimately close the gates to enter the concert at 7:00 p.m. This enraged the crowd, because many of them had tickets, and there was no one available to provide reimbursements.

New Jersey state police stated, “Security personnel at one of the entrance gates… were confronted by crowds attempting to illegally enter the sold out Summer Jam concert by climbing over fences and forcing their way through security personnel.” It has been reported that people were tased, pepper-sprayed, and several arrests were made. Police donned in helmets and carrying shields and batons also blasted a loud piercing to try to disperse the crowd.

Emmis New York, which owns the radio station Hot 97, said they’ll refund tickets for those who didn’t get to see the show.
