Young Dolph Pays Homage to John Singleton in Self-Directed New Video

Directed by Young Dolph himself, “Cray Cray” pays tribute to Dolph’s favorite director, John Singleton, spotlighting his 2001 film Baby Boy and other cult classics.

With a comical on-camera cameo from the youngest female rapper to ever sign a record deal, That Girl Lay Lay — who finesses Dolph out of a hefty wad of cash when she catches him red-handed with another woman — the video finds the South Memphis rap star offloading bars about women and wealth. Produced by Bandplay, “Cray Cray” introduces viewers to Dolph’s cinematic eye for captivating visuals.

Whether he’s kicking out a disgruntled lover after a scandalous one-night stand, or jumping out the window of a two-story home while trying to evade grandma’s keen sense of smell, Dolph’s latest music video is nostalgic, hilarious and animated all in the same breath.

Last month, Dolph released one of his most introspective, yet equally impactful project’s to-date, Rich Slave. A statement effort, the album spotlights his come-up story from rags to riches, while showcasing his cognizance as a creative — he’s accountable of his influence and plainspoken with his delivery, holding nothing back. The title alone exposes the plight of Black lives that are still subjected to racism, despite the accumulation of wealth and/or perceived class, you can’t escape it.

Notching over 44 million on-demand streams in its first week, Rich Slave is primed to have significant replay value as we begin to close out 2020.
