Before an artist drops a new album or mixtape, I give them the benefit of the doubt that their music will sell. But no matter how much buzz the artist has, or how many Instagram followers they have, the numbers are what is important at the end of the day. Let’s be honest, number don’t lie.

Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave recently released his album “Major Without A Deal” and I was sure he was going to top the charts with this one. First off, the album has features from some of the most successful names in the music industry including Cam’ron, Rick Ross, A$AP Ferg, 50 Cent, Fabolous, Jeezy, and Ty Dolla $ign. Not to mention Troy’s huge fan base.

However, the “All About The Money” rapper’s first week of album sales were less than impressive. According to Nielson SoundScan, the album only moved 4,373 units in its first week. Only 30 of those were physical copies that were released early by mom and pop retailers.

Troy Ave took the independent route and released his LP through BSB Records with a distribution deal through EMPIRE Distribution. A representative for EMPIRE Recordings/Distribution stated, “Troy Ave had a big performance at NYC’s HOT 97 Summer Jam on Sunday, June 7th and wanted his fans to be able to get the album prior to that show. Thus, we released the digital version on June 5th and then on June 9th, the physical copies were released.”

This news still didn’t stop Troy Ave from becoming the laughing stock on Twitter, along with numerous memes on Instagram mocking the low sales. See Troy Ave’s short and sweet response to it all below!
