After serving 6 out of an 8 year sentence for shooting a woman in the abdomen over a missing sum of $3,000, New York rapper Remy Ma, real name Reminisce Smith, was finally released from Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women on August 1. Remy Ma happily confirmed the release by posting a note which read “I’m Back!!” on her Instagram page @therealremyma. Her husband Papoose also confirmed the news via Instagram and uploaded a photo of a cake with the caption “Congratulations to the #Queen happy 2c you walk out that cage!!!!!!!!!! Time 2 begin a new chapter It’s your time #therulersback wish strong was here 2c this #therulersback #therulersback #ripstrong.”
Remy Ma was only 26 years old when she was found guilty. While incarcerated a number of labels reached out to Remy Ma, however, she refused to accept any offers before being released. Remy admitted to spending a great amount of her time in prison writing new material that will be recorded and released. During an interview with Angie Martinez she stated “It’s not gonna be fair – my pen game is crazy.”
One of Remy Ma’s first moves since being released was getting into the studio with DJ Khaled and recording the track “They Don’t Love You No More” Remix. This is her first track in over 6 years. DJ Khaled has expressed interest in signing Remy Ma to his record label We The Best Music Group. There has been no word so far from Remy Ma.
