Tekashi 6ix9ine Denied Early Release Amid Coronavirus Concerns

by Rich

Tekashi 6ix9ine will serve the remainder of his sentence behind bars.

Earlier this month, Tekashi 6ix9ine’s lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, filed a request asking that the “KEKE” rapper be released from prison to avoid contracting the Coronavirus, which could cause serious health complications when paired with his asthma.

Lazzaro wrote, “It seems like just a matter of time before all prisons in the area are hit with this virus, both inmates and guards.”

Today, it has been reported that Judge Paul Engelmayer denied the request, but noted that Tekashi may have a different outcome if he files his request with the Bureau of Prisons.

“At the time of sentencing … the Court did not know and could not have known that the final four months of Mr. Hernandez’s sentence would be served at a time of a worldwide pandemic to which persons with asthma, like Mr. Hernandez, have heightened vulnerability.”

Engelmayer added, “Had the Court known that sentencing Mr. Hernandez to serve the final four months of his term in a federal prison would have exposed him to a heightened health risk, the Court would have directed that these four months be served instead in home confinement.”

Tekashi is slated to be released on July 31st.
