Sometimes the ‘Truth Is’ a hard pill to swallow.

BriJolie’s latest release leaves no room for ambiguity or misunderstandings.

Instead of forcing it, I just lay this harsh truth on the table: “I never wanted you.”

The unforgettable pain of heartbreak tends to produce a lasting impression that can catalyze growth and inspire change, it’s all about perspective. You know how the long-established aphorism goes, “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” – and BriJolie’s recent effort strongly supports this claim.

Relationships, by today’s standards, have become social media-driven ploys to garner attention and accessorize status as it pertains to “goals” or intimate relevance. In other words, if it isn’t public, it’s not official. The whole dynamic behind dealing with a significant other can be both strenuous and draining – especially if pre-established, internalized struggles begin to surface overtime. Generally speaking, it seems like the zest of a 90’s-type of love has ran its course, but what factors are to blame for the sudden change?

One huge one, for my generation anyway, is commitment“, says BriJolie. “For whatever reason, people don’t want to commit to others. But that also reveals a battle with self! There could be underlying reasons, so it’s about tapping into YOU so you can be better for another person. You gotta be comfortable in you first“.

BriJolie’s latest effort is about looking in the mirror and “being honest WITH SELF!” Even during life’s most unprecedented instances, like say for example – during a global pandemic, idle time creates an opportunity to reflect and dive into an introspective state.

Having enough cognizance to acknowledge the past while working towards a progressive future is vital to unlocking your full potential. It’s almost as if you have to fail tragically in order to reign in the blessings that are bestowed upon your life – or at least be well equipped with handling the “let’s just be friends” stage of breakups. Either way, the inevitable denouement of a fabled love story is more complex if anything, but it lessens the load when you have someone with a similar dating history help pen the soundtrack to overcoming dormant relations.

When DeLano and I were writing this song, we just talked about similar dating experiences“, says BriJolie with regard to co-creating her latest bop with DeLano Jacque’z. “I had a previous fling with an individual older than me. I thought I hit the jackpot bc (because) they were older, yet they still brought the same BS to the table. They felt I wasn’t giving them enough and vice-versa…when the truth of the matter was we just needed to be friends! Let’s just stop wasting each other’s time! ‘I never wanted you’ is a strong way to put it but it’s basically saying “not in that way” haha. I’m not that savage!“, she continues.

Whether she’s a savage – classy, bougie, ratchet – or living out her truth through symbolic prose, it’s evident the Texas-native is living life on her own terms, by her own standards. With a resume that boasts industry experience as a member of Ye’s Sunday Service Choir imprint, BriJolie’s onstage prowess is imbued with significant sway.

From an early age, she developed a keen interest in the artistic expression associated with singing and dancing as a byproduct of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. After transitioning to the West Coast and developing a fondness for the Angeleno lifestyle, entertainment took precedence and the rest was history. Following the loss of her biggest supporter, her mother, BriJolie managed to manifest the ambition required to propel her career forward.

‘Truth Is’ provides perspective on ironing out the gray area between the friend-zone and a relationship.

This song breaks the barriers of titles and roles in relationships simply because it’s from the female perspective. I’ve been in several situations where there have been guys and girls I’ve dated way too long knowing it can’t go past a Netflix and chill” she says.

A voice of reason amongst the unheard, courageously carving out her own professional career in the unforgiving realm of music – BriJolie emerges as a promising talent capable of industry ascendancy.
