Pittsburgh Cop Put On Desk Duty For Celebrating Jimmy Wopo’s Death

by Yellah Bone

A Pittsburgh cop has been punished for celebrating Jimmy Wopo’s death.

Last week, Jimmy Wopo was shot and killed in his hometown of Pittsburgh. After the devastating news hit headlines, Wopo’s family, friends, and fans worldwide began to mourn his death.

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh police officer, Brian M. Martin, was completely unaffected by Wopo’s death, and had no qualms about making it known. A Facebook user suggested that Wopo’s death had been forgotten – stemming Martin to reply, “Not me. I’m still celebrating.” The post has since been deleted, but not before being noticed.

Chris Togneri, a spokesperson for the City of Pittsburgh released the following statement, “We will hold this officer accountable for his actions. Comments that disparage victims and endanger the community and fellow officers will not be tolerated by the city of Pittsburgh.”

Pittsburgh mayor, Bill Peduto, also noted that Brian was sent home after the department became aware of his comment, “It was a comment that not only created additional duress during this situation but also put his fellow officers in potential danger.”

In addition, Executive Director Elizabeth Pittinger has revealed that the Pittsburgh Citizen Police Review Board is also investigating Martin for potentially violating the police department’s social media policy.
