During an interview the Breakfast Club back in January, Master P claimed that syrup is killing this entire generation of rappers because they are letting the drug affect their work ethic and it is halting their success. The No Limit Records founder stated, “Nobody really wanna work no more… Everybody getting high now. The syrup is killing this whole generation. Sometimes you don’t have to work for the money. If you do what you gotta do and you good at it, the money gon’ come. You gotta love what you’re doing. And you gotta educate yourself.”

I’m sure that there are many people who will agree with Master P, but Paul Wall isn’t one of them. The 35 year old Houston rapper, who also refers to himself as “The Po Up Poet”, recently sat down for an interview with DJ Smallz and revealed that he doesn’t know one single person who has died from drinking syrup. As a faithful lover of the drink, Paul defended it stating, “Of course I love Master P, I got nothing but respect for Master P, but it might be killing the generation theoretically, but it’s not sending people to the graveyard. I personally don’t know not one person in my whole life who has ever died as a result of sippin’ syrup.”

The Hip Hop community has already lost DJ Screw, Big Moe, and Pimp C to the lethal drink, but Paul claims that syrup wasn’t what actually killed them. The “Sittin’ Sidewayz” rapper stated, “They might have syrup in they body when they die, but that don’t kill ’em. Now poppin’ pills, handlebars, them handlebars be sending people to the grave. Shooting heroin up that’s sending people to the grave. You know that flocka, that’s sending people to the grave.”

Paul continued, “Alcohol is sending people to the grave. 200 million people die off some crazy sht from cigarettes, that’s sending people to the grave. Obesity, not eating properly, drinking sodas, eating all this shit with corn starch, and corn syrup in it. Not real sugar, not real products, all these man-made products, that’s the sht that’s sending people to the grave.”

What are your thoughts on lean? Does it make an artist more popular if they indulge in the drink?
