Kevin Fret was only 24 years old.

Kevin Fret, known as the first openly gay Latin trap artist was shot and killed yesterday around 5:30 a.m. as he rode his motorbike through Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The 24 year old rapper was transported to the Medical Center of Río Piedras, where he was later pronounced dead. Fret, who was shot eight times, was a prominent member of the LGBT community.

Fret’s manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, confirmed the saddening news to Billboard with an official statement, “Kevin was an artistic soul, a big-hearted dreamer. His passion was music, and still had a lot to do.”

“This violence must stop. There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go. We must all unite in these difficult times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.” Fret’s death serves as the 22nd homicide to occur Puerto Rico in 2019.

Fret began to make a name for himself following the release of his April 2018 single, “Soy Asi.”
