A few days ago, news broke that Nicki Minaj’s older brother, Jelani Maraj, 37, had been charged for raping a minor. On Thursday, he was arraigned in Long Island, New York on first-degree rape and first-degree sexual conduct against a child under the age of 13. Nassau County prosecutors stated that Maraj engaged in intercourse with a child under the age of 13 at approximately 6:30 p.m. on November 30th. The Nassau County Correctional Center confirmed that a bail of $100,000 had been set.
Nicki always been vocal about how much she loves her family, especially her big brother. So it was no surprise to me that she bailed him out of jail. Last August, Jelani married Jacqueline Robinson at the Coral House on Milburn Lake in Baldwin, New York. The cost to secure the wedding venue totaled $30,000, which was paid in full by Nicki. After the wedding, Nicki took to social media expressing that she “would cross the ocean” for Jelani, and also confessed that she “cried during his wedding and his first dance like a punk”.
This new allegation must be a hard pill for Nicki to swallow, as well as Jelani’s wife. But the Maraj family isn’t willing to go down without a fight. A source close to Nicki revealed that the “Anaconda” rapper is “prepared to do anything for her brother”, even if that means posting two homes that she owns for bail. One of the homes belongs to Nicki, while the other one is being occupied by Nicki’s mom, Carol, and her brother.
The bail was handled by Ira Judelson, who is a well-known celebrity bails bondsman.
Maraj is due back in court December 9th.
