Back in September, it was announced that ABC Family was working with Nicki Minaj to develop a sitcom based on her pre-fame life growing up in Queens, New York. Yesterday, the “Only” rapper shared the final cast list with her fans via Instagram. She posted a screenshot of the press release revealing the names of the actors and actresses who have landed roles in Nicki. Fruitvale Station actress Ariana Neal, was chosen to play the main role as Nicki Minaj.
On Instagram, Nik spoke highly of Neal writing, “I literally cried watching her taped audition. I demanded to meet her! Sat in a room with her teaching her how to rap by doing a beat on the table & forcing her to stay on beat! Lol. Then pulled out all the attitude she had in her lil body. Haha! She’s tough! And so sweet & cute. #ArianaNeal #LilNicki Welcome to the family lil lady bug! 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘 #ABCFamily #Freeform #Nicki.” Minaj will narrate the show the similar to the way Chris Rock narrates Everybody Hates Chris.
Others who will join Neal include Whoopi Goldberg, who will portray Minaj’s neighbor, Miss Martha, Selita Ebanks will play Grace, Minaj’s mother, Wesley Johnson will play Minaj’s father, Vincent, and lastly, McCarrie McCausland will portray Minaj’s older brother, Jaylen.
Not only will Minaj serve as the executive producer, she is also slated to make an appearance. From the very beginning Minaj has been hands-on with the show hand picking the main characters, and even admitted being “maybe too involved”. As of now, no release date has been announced.
