New Orleans DJ Black N Mild Dies From Coronavirus At 44

DJ Black N Mild passes away.

Coronavirus is rapidly spreading across the nation, and has claimed yet another life. On Thursday, popular New Orleans bounce DJ and radio personality, DJ Black N Mild, tragically passed away after he tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). Black N Mild, born Oliver Stokes Jr., was only 44 years old.

On Friday, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed the saddening news. Stokes was one of two Coronavirus related deaths in Louisiana.

Prior to his passing, Stokes revealed via social media that he was feeling unwell. Apparently, he left work on March 9 and checked into Ochsner Urgent Care in Lakeview with a fever of 102.4. On March 11, he was admitted to University Medical Center, posting on Facebook, “Pneumonia not the flu.”

Stokes was a father of four who had relocated to Houston, where he hosted a mix show, Rhythm and Bounce, that aired on a New Orleans AM station on Saturday nights. He recently accepted a position as a in school suspension coordinator at the Arthur Ashe Charter School in Gentilly, Lousiana.

Following Stokes’ passing, his family released a statement asking that fans respect their privacy during this trying time, “Good afternoon everyone. I know this is hard for each of us with the passing of our beloved brother and friend. Let’s honor his family’s wishes as to not post anything on social media in their time of bereavement. I kindly ask that you remove/delete any posts that have gone up. Keep his family in prayer. Send anything to make this time a little easier for them.”
