Meek Mill opens up about his ongoing legal struggles.

Last week, via telephone, Meek Mill spoke with Lester Holt for an in-depth interview that aired on NBC’s Nightly News. During their discussion, Meek revealed that he knew his probation would lead him back to prison, which it has done.

Meek has been on probation since 2008, when he was arrested on drug and gun charges. He is currently serving two to four years in prison for violating the terms of his probation.

Holt started off asking Meek, “Can you believe that 10 years in, 10 years on probation that you are still in the clutches of the criminal justice system because of this one arrest?”, in which he responds, “It was always a thought in the back of my mind that 10 years of probation would bring me back to prison because a technical violation is police contact.”

Meek went on to clarify his situation, “You don’t have to be charged with a crime, you don’t have to be found guilty of a crime, you can be sentenced to what you were sentenced for, like what I was facing. (Judge Genece E. Brinkley) said I was facing five to 10 years. So, if I was stopped by the police for jaywalking, legally she has the right to give me five to 10 years.”

Overall, Meek Mill is hoping that his case can shed some light for black men, “I think God delivered me a job to [help] people minorities that come from these situations like myself… I think God put me in this position to be able to do a show with Lester Holt and open up eyes for other black men.”
