Lil Wayne dismisses Black Lives Matter.

In a new interview with ABC’s “Nightline”, Lil Wayne makes it very clear that he feels no connection to the Black Lives Matter movement. When reporter Lindsey Davis asked the 34 year old Louisiana rapper what his thoughts were on the movement, let’s just say his response raised a few eyebrows.

In a preview of the interview, Wayne starts off saying, “What is it? What do you mean? That just sounds weird. I don’t know, that you put a name on it…It’s not a name, it’s not, ‘whatever whatever.’ It’s somebody got shot by a policeman for a fucked up reason.”

He goes on to explain, “I am a young, black rich motherfucker. If that don’t let you know that America understand black motherfuckers matter these days, I don’t know what it is. That man white, he filmin’ me. I’m a nigga. I don’t know what you mean, man. Don’t come at me with that dumb shit, man. My life matter. Especially to my bitches.”

When asked if he feels drawn to the movement, Weezy continued to be dismissive, stating, “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothin’ to do with me. If you do, you crazy as shit. You. Not the camera. You. Feeling connected to something that ain’t got nothing to do with you? If it ain’t got nothing to do with me, I ain’t connected to it.”

Back in August, during a Tidal performance, Weezy chanted, “We are Black America… Black Lives Matter! Clothes don’t matter, cars don’t matter, nothing else matters ‘cuz Black Lives Matter.” Wayne has received a ton of backlash from fans since the clip aired. However, he has since taken to Twitter to address his statements, writing, “Is intelligence always misunderstood?”
