Lil Jon & Mac Dre Blend Cultural Influences In New Single “Ain’t No Tellin'”

by Derrius Edwards

Lil Jon pays homage to late West Coast icon Mac Dre with new single.

Multi-platinum and Grammy award winning artist Lil Jon releases his latest single – Ain’t No Tellin‘ – featuring hyphy legend Mac Dre.

“I’m a Lil Jon fan, and my son was a Lil Jon fan, so when he respectfully approached me about this idea there was no way I was going to say no to him.” – Ms. Mac Wanda

Ms. Mac Wanda is Mac Dre’s mother, the one who bestowed the blessing upon Lil Jon to release the record. Jon also had to endure the legal ramifications behind getting clearance to obtain the rare phenom’s vocals.

Nothing happens overnight, but the patience and resiliency required to endure such a long-winded process as this is nothing short of a testament to Lil Jon’s aptitude and Mac Dre’s eminent legacy.

“The process of getting those tapes, finding a studio that could transfer them, was rough…you don’t even know what it took to finally get to this place! This final version is incredible. I had to do right by Mac Dre, he is a legend and it meant a lot to me to make sure I did this right. I made at least 30 beats with Kronic – my producing partner on this one – before we settled on one. Something wasn’t sittin’ right with me [with what we already had] and I woke up one morning and remembered a beat I did for a Janet Jackson remix. She never used it. When I heard his vocals over the beat I was like ‘this is it!’ I think maybe God had me do that beat for Mac Dre the whole time…that was the reason Janet never used it.”  – Lil Jon

Perhaps it was mere coincidence that Janet Jackson never used the beat or maybe this song is something indicative of a higher power, something ordained by God.

Lil Jon’s run in hip-hop is legendary in it’s own right.

Infusing the dynamic acoustics behind his signature crunk sound and of course the famed ‘YEAH’ , ‘OK’ and ‘WHAT’ caterwauls of expression  has enable the ATLien to further cement his status in music and pop culture.

The referenced line, “Whole lot of A shit/Whole lot of Bay shit/If you ain’t getting hyphy in this bitch, then you basic” pretty much epitomizes the conveyed tone required in understanding the cultural influences behind this record.

This track is a blast from the past, regarding lyricism, that concurrently draws modern day innuendos in support of the hyphy movement. Lil Jon and Mac Dre slid on this track in the most player way that hopefully more collaborative efforts are forthcoming.

From the A to the Bay, this song is assured to leave you with a dignified thizz face.
