Keyshia Cole’s Mother, Frankie Lons, Passes Away

by Yellah Bone

Please say a prayer for Keyshia Cole and her family during this trying time.

After a long battle with drug addiction, Keyshia Cole’s biological mother, Frankie Lons, has died. Lons passed away on Sunday at her Oakland, California home while celebrating her 61st birthday.

According to Coles’ brother Sam, Frankie overdosed after taking drugs while partying. Lons’ fight against a crack addiction was documented on Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is. The BET series, which ran for 3 seasons from 2008 to 2010, covered Keyshia’s daily life as a singer with cameos from Frankie. Lons later nabbed her own reality show, Frankie and Neffe, with daughter, Neffeteria Pugh.

In honor of Lons’ memory, Sam says his family “wants the world to remember Frankie as someone who loved her kids, and who wanted her children to be together… despite their turbulent history.”

Frankie’s death was confirmed via Instagram, by Coles’ sister Elite Noel, “Worse pain ever….. To see my mama in a body bag on her birthday! My heart so fuckin broke.” Keyshia has yet to publicly address her mothers passing.

In 2018, Keyshia shared a heartfelt Instagram post opening up about her mom’s painful struggle with addiction, “This was 2 1/2 years ago. Every time my mom relapse, it breaks my heart more than it’s already been broken. I’m hoping, if any of u are dealing with a family member who’s battling with drug addiction, that you, yourself are learning how to cope with the struggle of it all. And all the pain it brings to see a loved one constantly relapsing. See them go back to the streets Because that’s what they’re used to, or would rather be. I really miss you! And will always love u #FrankTheBank 👑❤️.”

Later in January 2020, Keyshia announced via social media that her mother had decided to check herself into rehab. The 39 year old “Love” singer excitedly wrote, “My day today. Happy YOU DECIDED ON YOUR OWN, to check YOURSELF INTO a facility to get treatment. Its only been two weeks but, I’m trying to be hopeful and optimistic.”

LONG LIVE FRANKIE.
