Obviously, this isn’t a shock to everyone, but we were all waiting to hear it from the horse’s mouth. iloveMakonnen has been distant from OVO for quite some time now, but it was never made clear if he still remained on the label or not. Yesterday, a unnamed rep from Makonnen’s team told Inverse.com that the 27 year old Atlanta rapper/singer had cut ties with Drake’s label, but fans were skeptical.
Today, Makonnen released a statement addressing the rumors, and made it more than clear that he has no hard feelings towards the 6 God, nor his label stating, “I cannot thank OVO, 40, Oliver, Future & Mr. Morgan, enough for all that they have done for my career. No words can express how much I appreciate Drake for being a part of the success of Tuesday. I’m sure the haters will have something negative to say, but all in all my choice to be solely on Warner Bros Records was the right thing for me and for my best interest. Sorry there’s no beef to report, DRINK MORE WATER.”
I can’t help but wonder if Makonnen walked away from OVO, or if he was dropped. Either way, Makonnen is not around for the drama, and I’m sure his fans can appreciate that.
