In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Gene Simmons, bass guitarist and co-lead singer of hard rock band KISS, voiced his opinion on rap and ruffled a few feathers in the process. In the past, Simmons has made a couple of controversial comments about depression, suicide, and women’s role in society. Ultimately, he had to apologize for the insensitive comments, but it looks like he’s up to no good once again.

During the interview, Simmons starts off stating, “I am looking forward to the death of rap. I’m looking forward to music coming back to lyrics and melody, instead of just talking. A song, as far as I’m concerned, is by definition lyric and melody… or just melody. Rap will die. Next year, 10 years from now, at some point, and then something else will come along. And all that is good and healthy.”

Apparently, rap isn’t the only thing Simmons hates. He stated, “I hate the Internet. I make a living, but to be a new band now and just give out your music for free, it’s the crime of the century.”

Following up on his prior comments about rap, Simmons stated, “I don’t have the cultural background to appreciate being a gangster. Of course that’s not what it’s all about, but that’s where it comes from. That’s the heart and soul of it. It came from the streets.”

Talib Kweli was NOT here for Simmons’ opinion and took to Twitter to blast the musician tweeting, “Would it be unfair of me to say I’m looking forward to the death @genesimmons or nah?” Take a look at Kweli’s Instagram and Twitter posts below!
