Former Indianapolis Colts running back Zurlon Tipton has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 26. According to Detroit’s Fox 2, Tipton died after he accidentally shot himself in the stomach at a car dealership in Roseville, Michigan. Yesterday morning, Tipton was bringing his vehicle in for servicing when he went to remove a duffel bag containing two guns. Police say that’s when one of the guns went off, shooting Tipton in the stomach.

A recording of the 911 call from the dealership described the incident as “accidental”. A man stated, “A gentleman just shot himself in the stomach. His gun went off. He’s down on his back right now. He is awake … He is talking.” It is unclear how quickly Tipton’s state deteriorated, but he was expected to survive. Unfortunately, his conditioned worsened shortly after he arrived to the hospital.

A full autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

We send our deepest condolences to his family.
