Drake’s former manager is heading to jail.
Drake’s former manager, Derrick Lawrence, is heading to jail for tax evasion. On Monday, Lawrence was sentenced to eight months in jail for failing to paying his taxes.
Apparently, Lawrence, (who is the founder of Aspire Music Group, which originally signed Drake), failed to file tax returns from 2009 to 2011. During those years, Lawrence made over $2 million dollars. Lawrence claims that his former accountants are responsible for the his financial issues.
Lawrence told Brooklyn Federal Magistrate Judge Peggy Kuo, “It was never a disrespect to the government. It was a lack of knowledge. It’s my fault for not following up with my accountants who I hired.”
In addition to the jail time, Lawrence must also repay the IRS $600,000.
