DMX recently payed homage to the police officers who saved his life earlier this year.

Last Friday, DMX performed for free at the Yonkers Police Department vs. Fire Department “Toughman Competition” in an attempt to pay homage to the police officers who saved his life back in February.

Officers found X’s lifeless body in a Yonkers hotel parking lot, where he lay non-responsive and without a pulse. Originally, it was reported that X had suffered an drug overdose, but in actuality, he had suffered a severe asthma attack.

During the charity event, X led a short speech where he thanked those in attendance, stating, “There’s a few officers here tonight that on February 8, saved my life. Saved my life. To go from at one point running from the police … to having them same police save my life. True heroes … I’m not speaking from what someone else told me or someone else’s opinion. This is my personal experience.”

In addition to his speech, DMX performed his hit “Ruff Ryders Anthem”, for the 2000 guests that showed up. Overall, X raised a whopping $80,000.
