Police say a Detroit father was shot dead after dropping his son off at school.
On Wednesday, around 8:10 a.m., 28 year old Keenan Beard was shot and killed outside of Mark Twain Elementary-Middle School in southwest Detroit after dropping off his 5 year old son.
Detroit police Chief James Craig told WWJ Newsradio 950, that Beard was slumped over in his SUV suffering from a fatal gunshot wound when police officers arrived to the scene. Craig believes Beard and the gunman were acquaintances.
The suspect allegedly shot Beard from the backseat of his SUV, however, it is unclear if he got into the backseat when Beard went into the school or had he already been in the car with Beard as he drove to the school.
After the shooting, the suspect got out of the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. A relative said the victim drove his son to school every day.
Craig stated the motive of the shooting is unknown at this time, but says the police have a couple of witnesses.
The shooter is described as a black man with a medium complexion, wearing a bright orange hoodie, 5′ 8″, and 180 pounds.
