Chris Brown may have to cancel his upcoming tour in Australia in December due to his domestic violence conviction against Rihanna. As a result of the 2009 incident, Brown may be banned from Australia. On Thursday, Australian Minister for Women, Michaelia Cash spoke at a launch event for a federal initiative to prevent domestic violence stating, “People need to understand, if you are going to commit domestic violence and you want to travel around the world, there are going to be countries that say to you, ‘You cannot come in because you are not of the character that we expect in Australia’. I can assure you that the minister for immigration and border protection will be looking at this very, very seriously. I am clearly not going to pre-empt a decision by the minister, however, I can assure you what my strong recommendation would be.”

As part of his One Hell of A Nite Tour, Brown has four shows scheduled in Australia beginning on December 9 at Perth Arena, followed by shows in Melbourne on December 12, Sydney on December 14, and concluding on December 16 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Minister Cash isn’t the only one trying to ban Brown from entering Australia. Advocacy group GetUp launched a petition on Friday calling on Peter Dutton, Australia’s immigration minister, to refuse Brown a visa because of his background of violence against women. The petition has already received over 10,000 signatures. The petition page states, “Speaking out against Chris Brown has nothing to do with pop music, and everything to do with men’s violence against women.”
