The music industry is mourning the loss of Johnny P.

Yesterday, Chicago R&B singer, Johnny P, born John Pigram, passed away at 44. Prior to his death, Pigram had been sick – his family also confirmed that he had been in a coma and on life support for weeks. At this time, it is unclear as to why Pigram’s health declined, but it was revealed earlier this year that he was suffering from a medical condition.

Pigram had been singing since he was four years old, and eventually inked a deal with Rap-A-Lot Records in 1998, where he released his debut studio album, “The Next.” Pigram is most known for his hook on Do or Die and Twista’s 1996 single “Po Pimp” as well as Scarface’s 1997 hit song “Smile” featuring Tupac.

During his career, Pigram toured with the likes of Whitney Houston, The Jacksons, Michael Bolten, Regina Bell, MC Hammer and Jeffery Osborn.

Sending condolences to Pigram’s family.
