Cardi B sues her ex-manager.
Back in April, it was revealed that Cardi B’s manager, Shaft, was suing her for $10 million for breach of contract. Apparently, Shaft was upset Cardi fired him, when he believes that he is the reason that she is a star today.
Shaft’s rep released the following statement to TMZ at the time, “Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image.”
“While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint. Shaft is confident that his lawsuit will validate his conduct and substantiate his legal claims.”
Now the tables have turned, and the “Be Careful” rapper has countersued her former manager for $15 million. According to court documents, Shaft set up a management deal with Cardi that she considers far too one-sided. Shaft was already receiving a 20% commission, but demanded 50% of her Sony music publishing deal.
In addition, Shaft tried to control every aspect of Cardi’s life, putting “barriers between her and people close to her in an effort to maintain complete control over her.” Shaft even stepped into Cardi’s personal life, telling her “who she should and should not see romantically” – including her relationship with Offset.
Stay tuned for updates on this case.
