The rate of gun violence in Chicago is unbelievably high seems to have no plans of slowing down. Around 2 a.m. this morning, aspiring Chicago rapper Damon Dawson, who goes by the name of “Thugga”, was shot and killed at Foster Park during the filming of a rap music video for a track titled, “Two Techs And A 50 Shot”. Dawson, 22, was shot in the back of the head, and died on the scene after two unknown assailants walked onto the set and opened fired.

According to Chicago rapper Foreign Lyfe, the gunmen approached the set from behind the camera. Lyfe stated, “I heard my homie say that he had seen somebody pulling up or whatever. We turned around and look back again, quick as we looked back, started shooting. Shots coming from everywhere. That’s how it went down.” Four other people were were injured, but their conditions have been stabilized. The police believe the shooting was gang-related.

Dawson’s aunt, Angela Tate, says her nephew was far from a gang banger, stating, “I don’t know what inspired them to go up there last night. It’s going to keep happening, this is not going to stop, I don’t know what they are going to do to stop this. He was good at heart. He would do anything for you. He didn’t finish school all the way, but he was a good guy. He wasn’t into no gang banging, he didn’t bother nobody, he didn’t shoot nobody.”

Despite camera’s rolling at the time of the shooting, the incident was not captured.

Sending prayers and condolences to Dawson’s family.
