Hip Hop the way we once knew it has changed and definitely evolved over the years. With the sound of the south pretty much taken over the industry, many have forgotten the origins of Hip Hop and creativity. Hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, 18 year old emcee and lyricist Nes Celestial reminds us of what Hip Hop used to be on his new mixtape, “Sui Generis.” Born in 1997, Nes Celestial clearly has caught a wave of the early 90’s music the way he delivers on “Sui Generis.”

When we heard the title of the new project, we thought to ourselves, this is going to be something different. It’s really funny, seeing that Sui Generis actually has a deep Latin meaning of being unique, and that definitely defines Nes Celestial as an artist all in one. While pressing play, and listening to the opening track “Sui Generis”, Celestial plays with his words and does a great job showcasing his hunger to be heard over the JoeG3 production.

Moving on to track 2 of the mixtape, Nes continues to deliver lyrical content and rides the smooth production of Sanmiguelselectah. At this point, we at Inyaearhiphop realized we were dealing with a artist with a Joey Bada$$ caliber, but with a style of his own. When listening to track 3, “Run Off”, the emcee asks his listeners to feel the wavy rhythms of his verbal blessings over a pan flute boom bap thumper you have no choice but to nod your head to.

Midway through the mixtape, we noticed that this 18 year old emcee has what it takes to really be a stand out artist in the game. Nes Celestial takes us on another lyrical journey on track 6, which is titled “Tenbrous”, where we get a fast like flow, while Nes explains his thoughts on this cold world. We don’t want to spoil it for the listeners, so we’ll let you guys enjoy the entire project below.

Overall, our Inyaearhiphop team gives “Sui Generis” a 4 out of 5 mics. The reason we give the project 4 mics, is the fact that Nes Celestial is only 18 years old, and has a lot of growing to do. At this age, this happens to be a solid project from Nes, and we know he will contribute something special to Hip Hop. Enough of our thoughts on “Sui Generis”, you guys can take a listen and be ready to keep your heads bopping after clicking play.
