Troy Ave Claims He Almost Signed With TDE
Troy Ave was close to signing with Top Dawg Entertainment.
After releasing his NuPac mixtape, Troy Ave is doing everything he can to promote the project.
On a new 32 minute commentary track entitled, “Truth Be Told PSA”, Troy claims that he almost signed to TDE following a brief conversation with Kendrick Lamar. Apparently, Lamar reached out to Troy while he was incarcerated, which sparked the idea.
Troy said Lamar offered a few words of encouragement said something along the lines of, “I see what you’re going through, man. Send my love.”
A light bulb immediately went off in Troy’s head, so he called his manager at the time, Hovain, and told him to set up something with TDE.
The 31 year old “She Belongs To The Game” rapper told Hovain, “Yo, put the plan in action, man. We gonna go out West when I come home and we gonna sign with TD.”
He later added that the whole plan fell through because of Hovain, but still spoke fondly of TDE, “I always liked what they was doing. They kinda independent like us, but way bigger because they went and got with a major. They got shit that I like to see, like loyalty and unity, that type of shit. Cool.”
“I give [Hovain] the whole play. Of course, he can’t make that happen at all. At all. He doesn’t make it happen. The whole shit just fell through.”
Listen to the discussion below. Troy begins to talk about TDE at the 14:45 mark.
