As a Hip hop journalist in the music industry, we’ve managed to run into tons of new upcomers. With the many emerging talented artists, some get heard and others don’t work hard enough to become a success story in the game. Hailing from Sylvan Lake, Alberta Canada, and with a musical talent like no other, Shifty Eyes is here to stay with his new debut mixtape “A New Day.”
When first taking a glance at Shift Eyes’ project, the first thing we noticed was his choice of cover artwork. We said to ourselves, here is this guy holding a banana with the name of his mixtape written all over it. At this point, the team at Inyaearhiphop was thinking we have to hear this project, will Shifty Eyes be a talented artist or would he be one of those artist you close your computer tab on?
We’ll, when clicking play and listening to the intro “Till Death”, we knew we already had the answer to our question and instantly felt “A New Day” would be a solid mixtape. Moving onto track 2, “Bass Remix”, Shifty showcases his metaphoric abilities over hard knocking bass that blows you away. Now, at this point you know your’re really in for something the world should be on the look out for.
Midway through the mixtape, we realized Shift Eyes does a good job of putting messages into his songs and doing it well over thumping trap beats. While continuing to move through the collection, we ran into a song which he titles “Ryda” and features Kevin Gates. On this one, the two go into depth about being from the streets and being straight up ryders. A cosign from BWA boss, Kevin Gates, pretty much put the project in 6th gear and let us know Shifty Eyes meant business.
From then on the while listening, the hits just kept rolling in with songs like “White Nino Brown”, “Blowin Up”, “Motive”, “No Pain”, and one of our favorites “People”. Every number on the project happened to be really good, but People had every one of us dancing and jamming from our office. The team at Inyaearhiphop gives the Canadian spitter’s tape 5 out of 5 mics. Shifty Eyes ability to make songs that make sense and choice of production lets you know he’s ready to take on the game.
We were going to break down every single track from the mixtape, but we didn’t want to spoil it for you guys. You’ll have to listen to the project from top to bottom to feel the hype and energy it gives off. We know Shift Eyes will be special to Hip hop and were glad to get introduced to A New Day!
