DJ Khaled is looking to run Epic Records.

Two weeks ago, L.A. Reid abruptly parted ways with Epic Records amidst sexual harassment allegations claims – after six years with the label.

Although the news was highly disappointing to many, one person in particular is already looking to step up and fill his shoes.

According to Page Six, an “industry insider” has revealed that DJ Khaled is looking to nab Reid’s position. The insider stated, “He was petitioning to get that job. He’s like, ‘I make more happen than anyone in the game, why would I not be considered to run the label?’”

Another source told the publication, “Khaled is a big hype machine — not a person who’s running a record label. My guess is [Sony Music UK CEO] Jason Iley will run either Columbia or Epic or they will take [RCA president] Tom Corson . . . and put him at Columbia or Epic.”

Just a few days ago, at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, Khaled spoke highly of Reid, telling the press, “He’s amazing. He’s the Berry Gordy of our time. L.A. Reid is amazing. That’s my thoughts. He’s an amazing person and he’s a great executive, a great music mogul and he’s a great friend.”

The sources went on to explain that Reid may have possibly been axed from the label because he acted like a “diva”, “The girl thing was just one more piece to the problem. That’s been going on for decades.”

“He doesn’t have a superstar roster to spend what he spends and be the diva that he is. Stringer wasn’t having it. He wants to put his own people in and clean a lot of baggage out.”

However, another unidentified source stated otherwise, “Rob was happy with LA. He was making money. He was doing fine. It’s not about that. This is about something that happened and it got cleaned up. Rob is not having the culture of that.”

A rep from Epic declined to comment.
